Ultimate family leisure space
We had already built a stable block and a barn for a delighted Mr and Mrs Beck when they came back and asked us to create a swimming pool and leisure block as well.
They not only wanted us to design the building and provide the large structural oak frame, but also to act as the main contractor.
Now this was the largest project we had undertaken up until that time and it proved to be highly complex.
For as well as the 15×5 metre swimming pool, the Becks also wanted a subterranean plant room, cinema and bar area, plus a gym, changing facilities, sauna and jacuzzi.
There also had to be a building management system linked to the main family home.
Incorporating all those facilities alongside the stunning structural oak frame was to test all our knowledge, experience and craftsmanship.
And it turned out to be as much a feat of engineering as of design, with the reclaimed Yorkshire stone slate roof so heavy that the leg of each truss was supporting around 8 tonnes.
On top of that, the walls of the swimming pool had to be strong enough to hold more than 100 tonnes of water.
For the finishes we strived for perfection
From the kiln-dried, oak-clad changing facilities, down to the Italian water cut tiles and curved glass sauna, the aim was to give the Beck family the ultimate leisure space.
A place where the children could enjoy splashing about in the pool while the adults relaxed or, if they wished, even joined in the fun.
The great relationship we still hold with Mr and Mrs Beck is testament to not only our energy and commitment to the build, but also their trust in us as individuals and as a company. A great partnership on a complex project that we are proud to have been part of.

The team’s expertise across project management, design and technical aspects through to hard finishes is exceptional and the value of such skills throughout the project added to the final visual impact and functional purpose of the building, effectively managing the budget without ever impacting the quality of finish.
The respect and relationship between Paragon and their team of contractors was obviously built on experience, trust and respect, which ensured the highest standards and attention as well as ensuring the project was completed on time.
